Acorn TV, Sundance Now, UMC, & Shudder Offer Free 30-Day Trial

With millions unable to leave their homes, due to coronavirus, streaming TV provides key entertainment.

Acorn TV specializes in mysteries, dramas and comedies from Britain, as well as Ireland, Canada and Australia, as well as foreign films. Counting 1 million-plus subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, Acorn TV adds new shows weekly.

The streamer is now offering an extended 30-day free trial for new subscribers. Interested viewers can sign up at Special code: FREE30.

Just a content sampling: For British mystery fans, “Agatha Raisin,” “London Kills” and “Queens of Mystery.” “Deadwater Fell” with David Tennant (“Dr. Who”) premieres April 6. “A Place to Call Home” is an acclaimed Australian drama, so is “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.” Theater lovers will revel in the Canadian “Slings & Arrows.”

Acorn runs $6/month. It’s available at, Amazon Prime Video Channels, Apple TV, Roku, YouTube TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Xfinity, iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android and various tablets.

Similarly, Sundance Now, owned by AMC Networks, is also offering a 30-day free trial for new subscribers. Viewers can sign up at Special code: SUNDANCENOW30.

Its content library includes an array of genres, true crime to thrillers.

For example, the supernatural series “A Discovery of Witches” stars Matthew Goode (“Downton Abbey”) and Teresa Palmer, while Julia Stiles goes glamorous in “Riviera.” AMC’s and BBC’s praised miniseries “The Little Drummer Girl” and a host of foreign films, such as French crime drama “The Red Shadows” and Sweden’s successful drama “The Restaurant,” season 3 begins March 19, are available. Emmy-winning “State of the Union” with Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd, is exclusively streaming, too.

Sundance Now runs $7/month or $5/month with an annual membership. It can be accessed on most streaming devices, including iOS, Android, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Roku, Xbox One and Google Chromecast.
