‘All American’ Scores as Netflix’s Most Popular Series

The teen sports drama “All American,” which debuted on The CW, is now Netflix’s most-popular show reports Business Insider. It ended its second season on the broadcaster in early March — and then made its streaming launch.

The show is based on the real-life story of Spencer Paysinger, who spent six years in the NFL and was part of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI winning team. Paysinger is also a consulting producer on the show.

“All American,” which has just been renewed for a third season, is a teen sports drama. It focuses on a talented football player from Compton (South LA), played by British actor Daniel Ezra (“Undercover,” “The Missing”), recruited to play for Beverly Hills High — and how his two worlds clash.

Taye Diggs (“Rent,” “Murder in the First”) plays his coach. “All American” also features Chad L. Coleman, Karimah Westbrook and Bre-Z.

This isn’t the first time a network transfer has scored Netflix. There was a big ratings bounce for “Riverdale,” another CW series, as well as AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” once both began streaming. Also, Netflix renewed “You” after Lifetime dropped the series. Netflix says the first season of “You” was viewed by 40 million households.

Netflix uses a new viewership metric to calculate its daily top 10 list.
