Cord-cutting has risen in popularity over the past few years, but a new report suggests that Americans are dropping cable and turning to streaming services at a rapid rate. That’s because, according to the latest Informitv Mulitscreen Index, the top-10 cable service providers in the U.S. collectively lost over 1.28 million TV subscribers in the first quarter of 2019, which works out to 14,000 Americans canceling cable TV every day.

Here’s a quick look at the amount of cord-cutting that has occurred in the first quarter of 2019 alone, which was compiled for the Informitv Multiscreen Index.
Discussing the popularity of cord-cutting and the drop in cable TV subscribers, Dr William Cooper, the editor of the informitv Multiscreen Index, offered up these details.
“There were losses across the top 10 television services in the United States, with even the DIRECTV NOW online service losing customers following previous heavy promotion. Between them, they lost over one-and-a-quarter million subscribers in three months. They still command a significant number of customers but the rate of attrition has increased.”
Based off of the report, the top-10 cable providers in the U.S. now have 81.9 million TV customers between them, which account for slightly less than 70% of television households. While cord-cutting has 30 to 35 million members right now, the trend continues to grow, with a recent Harris Poll survey showed that the majority of cord-cutters don’t miss anything about cable or satellite TV.
