BallerTV Streams High School Sports, Adds More Filming Capacity in 40 States

Sports fans who want to play armchair recruiter have a potent streaming option in BallerTV. If you haven’t heard of it, it launched in 2016 and provides access to thousands of live streams, replays, player highlights, and stats from the nation’s top youth sports.

Currently, viewers can watch basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and football games from across the country. BallerTV said it expects to break 500,000 streams per year beginning in 2022 and is on target to cover 2 million total games by 2023. BallerTV offers three subscription tiers from under $100 per year ($7.99/month) to $239.88 per year ($19.99/month).

The platform has more than 3,000 NCAA coaches among its subscribers, so this could be a powerful recruiting tool. Athletes can even claim their own profiles on BallerTV.

BallerTV is also raising its game. The company just acquired NextPro, a youth sports filming and recruitment service. The company announced the move in a press release early this morning.

NextPro’s portfolio spans 40 states and encompasses more than 150,000 outdoor games, spanning large-scale events in youth soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball, all of which will now be live-streamed for the first time as part of BallerTV. “We were extremely impressed with BallerTV’s meteoric growth from the moment they came into the youth sports landscape,” said Amin Edalat, CEO and co-founder of NextPro. “It’s exciting to align with BallerTV’s vision for the future.”

The release also gives a bit of backstory to the acquisition, saying that BallerTV was interested in NextPro’s youth soccer rights. As soccer becomes more and more important to American consumers, as evidenced by Paramount+ and ESPN's focus on soccer broadcasting rights, it makes sense for a platform to consider soccer on the same level as the other popular American sports in 2021.

“It was always part of our scaling plan to go into outdoor sports,” BallerTV co-CEO and co-founder Aaron Hawkey said in an interview. “NextPro clearly helped us accelerate that. They are rights holders to some of the biggest soccer [and] lacrosse events in the country, but historically, they’ve never live-streamed games. That’s what we do so well, so it seemed like a perfect match.”

In a post-NIL world, BallerTV really seems to be a stellar recruitment tool in a world where most athletes are found via random clips online. Now, scouts have easy access to full game film rather than just cherry-picked highlights, while the athletes themselves have a place where they can control their own narrative and get closer to potential universities.
