On Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2:07 PM EDT, the Houston Astros face the Chicago White Sox. The game is airing exclusively on MLB Network, which you can stream with a Live TV Streaming Service.

In Houston, Chicago, and Nationally, the game is streaming on MLB Network, which is available with a 7-Day Free Trial of fuboTV. The channels are also available on Sling TV, DIRECTV STREAM, and YouTube TV.

While MLB Network is usually an add-on to many of these services, during the MLB Playoffs it will be included for free at no extra charge.

If you want to stream the entire postseason on the cheap, you can get their first month of Sling Blue (FOX, FS1, TBS) for just $10 (normally $35), plus a free month of 200 Hour DVR (normally $5 a month).

Background

They’re two of the oldest managers in the game — Houston’s Dusty Baker at 72 and Chicago’s Tony La Russa at 77 — and they have mutual respect for each other and their teams going into this series. The two men spoke to MLB.com this week.

“They’re a very good team,” Baker said. “They’ve got excellent pitching and a good bullpen. I think they went out and got some extra help in their bullpen — probably to combat our offense. They’ve got good starting pitching, good power, good speed. It’s going to be a hell of a matchup.”

“Outstanding,” La Russa said. “Look at their success over the past several years. Guys that know how to play, and they play the whole game: they defend, they run the bases, they take good at-bats. You can see they’re among the top as far as putting the ball in play. But we match up well with them. … They’re dangerous to play against, and we’re dangerous to play against. I think it’s going to be a competition that both teams will really enjoy. We’ll see who comes out best.”

The veteran managers are not strangers. They battled for years in the NL Central when La Russa was with the Cardinals and Baker was with the Cubs. Moreover, they have some of the strongest pitching in the AL — outside of the Tampa Bay Rays.
