About The Problem with Jon Stewart

After leaving The Daily Show in 2015, Jon Stewart has been preoccupied with his new current affairs series as part of a multi-production deal with Apple. The multiple-season, single-issue series The Problem with Jon Stewart will not only focus on the issues at hand but also Stewart will discuss with the people who have been impacted as well as those who are responsible. Collectively, they will hypothesize tangible steps that can lead to a forward-moving solution. Some examples of the issues they will tackle include finding better ways to support the American working class and the struggle for comprehensive veteran care.

You’re in luck, podcast listeners—a companion podcast on Apple Podcast which will feature extended episodes every week. Staff members from across the show will provide listeners in-depth interviews with activists, interesting facts on the particular issue, and of course, a lot of jokes to lighten the mood.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart remarked, “I got burnt out on the pace of The Daily Show and also just my inability to evolve it to another satisfying place.”

He then explains that his new show will be a “gentlemanly one-on-one” with the interviewee and, “So far, there’s no fisticuffs, and any interview that doesn’t end in fisticuffs has to be considered a positive.” Unlike Stewart’s previous comedic role that earned him 22 Emmys, he is hoping that the new series will be more of a deep dive and satisfy this stage of his career.

The Problem with Jon Stewart was created by Jon Stewart, written by Chelsea Devantez (head writer), and produced by Busboy Productions and EDEN Productions. The executive producers are Jon Stewart, Brinda Adhikari, James Dixon, and Richard Plepler.
