Paramount+ To Broadcast UEFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Matches

More soccer is headed to Paramount+ this fall.

Paramount+ has announced that it will feature 15 UEFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying matches between September and November, with additional matches to be announced in 2022. The initial set of matches will feature six England Women’s National Team matches and four German Women’s National Team matches. Germany ranks third behind the US and Swedish national teams in the global FIFA rankings, while England is ranked 8th.

UEFA qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA World Cup started last week and run through September 2022, followed by the playoffs in October ‘22. UEFA national teams represented seven of the eight quarter-finalists at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, including semifinalists England and quarterfinalists Germany. England lost 2-1 to the eventual champion US in the semis, then dropped their third-place match to Sweden by the same score.

In addition to UEFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, Paramount+ will also feature CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying action beginning in November 2021 and the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which serves as FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers for the Asian Football Confederation beginning in January 2022. Paramount+ is also home to a wide variety of men’s soccer leagues, including UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Europa Conference League, NWSL, Concacaf, the Scottish Professional Football League, Brazil’s Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Futbol, Italy’s Serie A, the Asian Football Confederation, and the Women’s Cup.

ViacomCBS would also love to get the US Men's and Women's national team rights for Paramount+, which would greatly bolster the platform’s soccer coverage. At that point, they’d only be missing La Liga (which signed a deal with ESPN back in May), the English Premier League (which is reportedly looking for a new partner to broadcast games in the US) and the MLS as far as top-flight soccer leagues go.
