Sportsnet Relaunches SN NOW with New App and Pricing, Including Free Tier

SN NOW, the direct-to-consumer sports streaming service from Canadian media giant Rogers Sportsnet, just launched their brand new app. The new platform was built in conjunction with Deltatre and Firstlight Media.

Prior to the update, the service had two monthly plans. SN NOW for $19.99 CAD with live access to SportsNet, Blue Jays, Raptors, in-market NHL streaming, and nationally televised NHL, NBA, and MLB games. SN NOW+ included out-of-market NHL games through NHL LIVE, along with IndyCar, Bundesliga, FA Cup, and more.

The biggest change is there is now SN NOW Free Tier, which includes select live events, next-day replays, and original content.

They have renamed SN NOW to SN NOW Standard and dropped the price from $19.99 to $14.99 CAD a month ($150 per year), which includes all but WWE content, which is now a $10 CAD add-on. SN NOW+ is now SN NOW Premium ($34.99 CAD) and includes many of the same benefits of the old plan, and bundles WWE Network.

They are also offering a WWE Network standalone option for $14.99 a month for those that are on the SN NOW Free Tier. Just like Peacock in the U.S., it includes PPV no extra charge, all live airings of Raw, Smackdown, and NXT, plus WWE Network originals, this is the premier streaming package for Canadian wrestling fans.

In comparison, TSN, the other primary sports network in Canada owned by Bell Media, offers streaming of their linear network for $7.99 CAD a day, $19.99 CAD a month, or $199.99 CAD annually. This includes in-market NHL coverage (Maple Leafs, Canadiens, and Senators), NBA (select Toronto Raptors games), NFL, PGA Tour Golf, and more.

Sportsnet continues to innovate with SN NOW, offering audiences greater choice and more ways to watch their favourite content,” said Bart Yabsley, President, Sportsnet. “As the Blue Jays continue their exciting chase for a postseason berth and with NHL about to drop the puck on a new season in just a couple weeks, Sportsnet is offering the highest quality streaming of any product in market, at even more affordable price points. And we will continue to add features and enhancements to SN NOW for fans such as stats, overlays, timeline markers, and betting integrations in the near future.”

Sportsnet’s new app has an all-new user interface, with improved stream quality and reliability, personalized content, and stat overlays. SN NOW will continue to be available inside the SportsNet app.

In an interview earlier this year with The Streamable, Alfredo Tan, SVP, Strategy, Data, & Products at Rogers Sports & Media told us that streamers should expect to see a different experience depending on their favorite teams. For example, a Toronto Maple Leafs fan would be served news and highlights related to their team, while a Montreal Canadiens fan would get that for the Habs.

While this is a foundational start, he envisions that fans will be able to choose highlights of games, condensed telecasts, or watch an entire live stream.

He said they are heavily investing in streaming quality and reliability – and latency to bring the games as near to their linear broadcasts as possible. While telecasts will stream in HD out of the gate, 4K is certainly a target down the road.

SN NOW is available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Google Chromecast, Xbox, PlayStation, and Ignite TV through the Sportsnet App.
