ViacomCBS: Pluto TV Hits 26.5 Million Domestic Users, Showtime and CBS All Access at 16.2 Million Subscribers

In their Q2 2020 earnings report, ViacomCBS announced today that Pluto TV saw a spike in users on the platform. The free, ad-supported service reached 26.5 million domestic monthly active users. This is up from the 24 million active monthly users they reported last quarter and significantly higher than the 22 million they announced the previous quarter.

The streamer is projected to reach 30 million users by the end of the year. The company also revealed that Pluto reached 33 million global monthly active users.

The company also stated that their paid streaming services, CBS All Access and Showtime, continue their upward trajectory as well. ViacomCBS reported domestic streaming subscribers reached 16.2 million, up 74 percent year-over-year. Last quarter, both services were at a combined 13.5 million subscribers, up 50 percent year-over-year.

Last week, ViacomCBS announced they added 70 shows with more than 3,500 episodes to the streaming platform. BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” MTV’s “Laguna Beach,” Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants” and Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show” are available now and more shows are expected to rollout over the next six months.

In addition to the library shows, the streaming service has also begun to roll-out a revamped user interface that will include advanced recommendations, curated homepages and new content categories.

One of the more alluring points of the new service is the fact that though it’s getting additional content —relaunching in early 2021 with 30,000 TV episodes and movies from the company’s library — the pricing will remain the same at $5.99 for the ad-supported version and $9.99 for the ad-free version. This puts the service in direct competition with the other streamers.
