Dave Bautista’s Comedy ‘My Spy’ to Stream on Amazon on June 26

Fern Siegel

Given the pandemic, many films slated for theatrical movie releases have gone straight to streaming networks in the U.S. That includes Dave Bautista’s “My Spy,” which will debut June 26 on Amazon Prime Video.

Directed by Peter Segal (“Get Smart,” “Anger Management”), “My Spy” is about a demoted CIA agent (Bautista) who has to cope with a 9-year-old girl while on an undercover mission to watch her family. Once the youngster discovers his true identity, she makes a deal with him: She won’t blow his cover — if he teaches her how to be a spy.

The movie co-stars Chloe Coleman (“Big Little Lies”), Kristen Schaal (“BoJack Horseman”), Jessica Jones and Ken Jeong (“The Hangover” films).

Bautista, a former championship wrestler, is also a producer on the film; he has been featured in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

The Hoeber brothers (Jon and Erich) wrote the “Spy” screenplay. They are also responsible for the “Red” franchise, “Battleship” and “The Meg.”

“My Spy” is one of several projects STX is developing with Bautista, including a short-form action-comedy VR series from the company’s immersive content division, STXsurreal.

The action-comedy film was screened in movies theaters in Canada, Australia and several European countries before COVID-19 forced global shutdowns.
