The WNBA season is back for the 2020-21 season two months after it was originally supposed to start. The delay was, of course, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and left many wondering if the women would be able to play at all this year.
Nonetheless, the league officially returns on July 25 with the three games on deck. The Seattle Storm opens the season, going against the New York Liberty at 12 p.m. ET, followed by the Los Angeles Sparks against the Phoenix Mercury at 3 p.m. ET. The Indiana Fever close out the day with a game against the Washington Mystics at 5 p.m. Games will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Storm enter this season as the predicted champions. They lost top players Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird due to injuries last season and still managed to track an 18-16 record and win a playoff game, according to ESPN. With both players back on the roster now, the Storm are in tip-top shape to wreak havoc on their competition.
The Storm will have their work cut out for them, however. The Los Angeles Sparks and Phoenix Mercury come in with skilled veterans as well. While Chiney Ogwumike and Kristi Toliver won’t be playing this season, and Alana Beard has retired, the Sparks still have a “big three” in post players Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike and guard Chelsea Gray, ESPN states.
The Mercury also come in with full confidence as Diana Taurasi, who was limited to six games last season because of back and hamstring injuries, is coming back for her 16th season. Brittney Griner remains a top contender for the MVP, as the teams welcomes powerhouse point guard Skylar Diggins-Smith.
