Netflix CEO Confirms That Service Won’t Be Part of Apple’s Streaming Launch

Last month, it was reported that Apple has had difficulty getting major streaming players on board with their Amazon Channels competitor. The service, which is supposed to announced on March 25 will combine Apple’s original content, as well as the ability to subscribe to third-party services.

One of the companies that was reported not to be part of the launch was Netflix. Yesterday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings confirmed the report at a Press Event in Los Angeles: “Apple’s a great company. We want to have people watch our shows on our services.”

Netflix has also been one of the holdouts on Apple’s TV App which allows users to discover streaming content from a single app. Both HBO and Hulu are part of the TV App, but have been rumored to be balking at Apple’s terms to join their Amazon Channels competitor.

Apple is trying to get a 30% cut on streaming video services — which is similar to what many peg as Amazon’s take for Prime Video Channels. Currently, through the App Store, Apple earns 15% of subscription revenue (after taking 30% during the first year) for services like HBO NOW. It is expected that STARZ, CBS All Access, Showtime, and Viacom will offer streaming services at launch.
