Netflix to Turn Paul McCartney’s Children’s Book Into Animated Film

Beatles’ legend Paul McCartney has joined forces with Netflix and children’s entertainment producer Gaumont for a new animated feature.

The film is based on “High in the Clouds,” a 2005 children’s novel written by musician/songwriter Paul McCartney, Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh. It focuses on Wirral, a rebel teen squirrel, who crosses a powerful owl and now lives in the clouds.

An added bonus: The feature will have original songs and music by McCartney.

McCartney said: “I’ve always loved animated films, and this is a hugely important passion project for me. I can’t wait for the world to see it.”

Oscar nominee Timothy Reckart (“Head Over Heels”) is slated to direct. The screenplay will be written by Jon Croker (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”)

Gregg Taylor, Netflix’s director of original animated films, said partnering with McCartney was “one of the greatest thrills we’ve experienced at Netflix.” Noting his stellar collaborators, he added: “This whimsical story celebrating individuality and the unifying power of music is in great hands.”

Gaumont Animation has an extensive catalog, broadcast in more than 130 countries. It is also producing season three of “F is for Family” for Netflix.
