New Disney Plus Original, ‘Diary of a Future President,’ to Premiere on Jan. 17

Disney+ is bringing in yet another original with “Diary of a Future President.” The series, which is set to premiere on Jan. 17, follows Elena, a Cuban-American 12-year-old girl as she navigates the ups and downs of middle school and begins her journey to become the future president of the United States.

The 10-episode series stars up-and-coming actor Tess Romero as Elena, an unabashed, ultra-observant, 12-year-old with a strong point of view; Charlie Bushnell, who makes his acting debut in the series as Bobby, Elena’s sweet and mischievous older brother; Selenis Leyva as Gabi, Elena and Bobby’s sharp and loving mom; and Michael Weaver as Sam, a lawyer at Gabi’s firm who is in the beginnings of a relationship with her. Gina Rodriguez, who serves as executive producer and directed the first episode, also has a guest-starring role as adult Elena.

“Diary of a Future President,” joins a slew of other Disney+ originals, including “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” “The Mandalorian,” “Encore,” “Noelle” and many more.

When Disney+ launched on Nov. 12, it was downloaded 3.2 million times to mobile devices and garnered 1.3 million hours of viewership in its first 24 hours, according to Apptopia. Despite the hiccups, the streaming service reached 10 million subscribers merely 24-hours post launch.

One of the top selling points of Disney+ is that customers can opt to subscribe to the service as part of a bundle package that comes with the ad-supported tier of Hulu, as well as ESPN+. Customers can get the for $12.99 a month, which is $5 less than if you subscribed to each service separately. With the bundle, you can get the three services for less than Netflix.
