Orlando Bloom, who made his name as Legolas in the blockbuster “Lord of the Rings” franchise, has signed a deal to develop film and TV projects for Amazon Prime Video, reported Deadline.
Currently, Bloom stars in Amazon’s “Carnival Row” with Cara Delevingne. In the neo-noir drama, humans invade the homeland of mythical creatures, and both struggle to coexist. The series debuted in August and was picked up for a second season before its premiere.
“Carnival Row” is based on a script by Travis Beacham, who is exiting the production. Erik Oleson of “Daredevil” will take the reins as showrunner in season two, replacing Marc Guggenheim.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, called Bloom “a fantastic creative talent and collaborative partner for all of us.”
Bloom’s other film credits include “Troy” and “Black Hawk Down.” He just wrapped up production on John Ridley’s “Needle in a Timestack” and Rod Lurie’s “The Outpost.”
Amazon is also developing a “Lord of the Rings” TV spinoff, with a two-season order already confirmed.
