Peloton Announces App for Amazon Fire TV

Peloton, the world’s largest interactive fitness platform, rolled out its exclusive streaming service for Amazon Fire TV devices on Dec. 4.

Karina Kogan, Peloton Digital’s senior vice president and general manager, told CNBC that television was users’ “number one in demand platform.”

Peloton sells both exercise machines and classes to its 1.6 million members. The app’s new Fire TV compatibility will allow them to turn their own living room into an exercise room. Since Fire TV has more than 37 million active users around the world, the rollout could help Peloton increase its already impressive user base.

“Providing more people with a path to the connected fitness products made sense,” Kogan told CNBC.

The Peloton App for Fire TV covers six workout disciplines: Strength, yoga, meditation, stretching, bootcamp and cardio. The app also offers users an immersive workout experience that includes features like workout timeline, closed captioning and estimated calorie count.

Now that the app is available for television, in addition to tablets and phones, it gives users some flexibility — and space — for where they choose to work out. Plus, since the app is on an Amazon platform, it’s Alexa-compatible.

Peloton membership costs $39 per month for the full service — which requires a Peloton bike or tread — or $13 per month for digital membership, which still gives you access to some classes.

Amazon aficionados won’t be the only ones who benefit from Peloton’s expansion. The company also unveiled an app for the Apple Watch, which will be a boon for runners and gym heads.

Amazon Fire TV already lets users stream live TV services, or even sign for different streaming services such as Disney+.
