Quibi Profiles Comedians in ‘Hot Off the Mic,’ Adds Game Show ‘Let’s Go Atsuko!’
As Quibi nears its spring launch date, it is adding new shows.
“Hot Off the Mic” will air daily as seasoned and new comedians take humorous jabs at that day’s headlines. The first show will tape at the Improv in Hollywood; future efforts will be shot live at leading comedy clubs nationwide.
The “Mic” series is produced by Levity Live, which specializes in long-form stand-up specials and owns top comedy venues, including the legendary Improv.
Branching out to game shows, National Lampoon and PalmStar Media are bringing “Let’s Go Atsuko!,” a new Japanese series, to the mobile streamer.
Game master-comedian Atsuko Okatsuka leads two contestants through the craziness inside her grandmother’s refrigerator. In each episode, contestants share something they love and fear. That information is transformed into a game challenge to test the players’ abilities.
Last week, Quibi announced the 2020 class of “Prodigy,” the working title of a new documentary series that focuses on eight young athletes (21 or younger) expected to become stars in their chosen sports.
Adding to its documentary efforts is “How We Met,” which explores the nature of love and romance. Couples share their stories and how various events have cemented their connection.
Another docu-series is a raw look at human endeavors. “Sex Next Door” examines the lives of four young people who work in the sex industry. Set in Seattle, the show is an honest look at the difficulties the work entails, as well as its impact on family relationships and clients. “Sex” is directed by Anthony B. Sacco “The Chair,” “Project Runway”), a DGA award-winning director.
On the fiction front, “Ice Cream Man” is a horror-fantasy series based on the Image Comics comic book created by W. Maxwell Prince.
