Amazon Renews ‘Thursday Night Football’ Deal With NFL Through 2022

Amazon is bringing “Thursday Night Football” to their users through 2022. The streamer announced they renewed their deal with the NFL and will stream a dozen NFL games worldwide for the next three seasons on Prime Video and Twitch.

Amazon has also added another perk under the new deal: The e-commerce giant will also have exclusive global rights to one late-season game globally on Prime Video and Twitch each of the next three seasons. The game will be played on a Saturday in the second half of the 2020 NFL regular season and will air in the participating teams’ home markets.

“We are thrilled to renew our ‘Thursday Night Football’ deal with the NFL, and are excited to expand our relationship to include exclusive global streaming rights to an additional regular season game in 2020,” said Marie Donoghue, vice president of global sports video at Amazon. “We know Prime members and the Twitch community around the world love the NFL, and we remain committed to giving them the best and most customizable streaming experience possible, with a broad selection of premium content available at their fingertips.”

Though terms of the renewal deal weren’t disclosed, it is reported that Amazon is paying upwards of the $65 million they paid when they renewed the deal back in 2018. The company has held “Thursday Night Football” streaming rights for the last three seasons, starting 2017.

Amazon has been on a mission to fortify its ability to stream live sports. Earlier this year, the company inked a deal, along with The New York Yankees and the YES Network, to live stream 21 Yankees games during the 2020 regular season on Prime Video at no additional cost to Prime members. The first game to be livestreamed on Prime Video was scheduled for Friday, April 17, but was cancelled to due the COVID-19 outbreak.

Under the deal, Prime members in New York state, Connecticut, northeast Pennsylvania and north and central New Jersey areas will get access to all 21 Yankees games on Prime Video. These will be simulcasts of games produced by YES for airing on PIX11 and other over-the-air partners for Yankees telecasts, according to the YES Network.
