Seasoned 20th Century Fox executive Mark Pearson has been tapped as AMC’s Chief Strategy Officer. One of his key goals is to establish alliances with streaming services that would benefit from AMC’s theater network in the U.S., Europe and the Mideast.
Pearson reports to Adam Aron, AMC Theatres CEO-president.
Pearson was previously an EVP, business development and operations for 20th Century Fox Television. His background is a plus in dealing with streaming services. He spent 15 years at 20th Century Fox TV, as well as five years at Universal Pictures.
Aron touted his reputation in Hollywood, noting Pearson was “the perfect person to help AMC continue to innovate and create opportunities that benefit our existing studio partners, emerging streaming power houses, our customers and our shareholders. His considerable experience in the SVOD space will greatly help AMC to create partnerships with streaming services, including those from both established and emerging players.”
AMC is the largest movie exhibition company in the U.S, Europe and globally with approximately 1,000 theaters and 11,000 screens.
In October 2019, AMC launched a competitor service to iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and RedBox. The service, called AMC Theaters On Demand, offers on-demand movie rental and purchases at similar prices for new releases. The service kicked off with 2,000 titles after making deals with Disney, Universal, Warner Bros. and Sony.
