Apple Lands Murder Mystery Comedy Series From Phil Lord and Chris Miller
Apple has given a straight-to-series order to a TV series from filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“The Lego Movie”), Variety reported Wednesday.
The eight-part series, titled “The Afterparty,” is a murder mystery comedy set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each episode will be told from the perspective of a different attendee, according to Variety, “with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.”
Miller – who created the series – will serve as showrunner and executive produce, and Lord will also executive produce through the duo’s production company, Lord Miller. Aubrey Lee, vice president of television at Lord Miller, will produce.
According to Variety, the series will be produced for Apple by TriStar TV and Sony Pictures Television – Lord Miller has a nine-figure overall deal for television with the latter.
Lord and Miller have already waded into the TV streaming world as executive producers on adult animated series “Hoops,” which is currently in the works at Netflix. The series stars Jake Johnson (“New Girl”) as a “hot-headed, foul-mouthed” high school basketball coach.
Last year, the pair won an Oscar as producers on the animated feature “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse,” which Lord also co-wrote.
