Apple TV+ to Launch ‘Mythic Quest,’ Signs First-Look Deal With ‘Catastrophe’ Star

Apple TV+ is launching new comedy series “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet” on Feb. 7. The series is from Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, the duo behind “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.”

All nine half-hour episodes of the video-game comedy will be available on debut.

The set-up revolves around the popular medieval Mythic Quest MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), which is about to expand.

McElhenny, who is also a co-writer with Megan Ganz (“Modern Family,” “Community”), will executive produce with Day.

In addition to script/production duties, McElhenney stars as the gaming company’s unpredictable creative director. The ensemble cast includes Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham, Danny Pudi, Imani Hakim, Charlotte Nicdao, David Hornsby, Ashly Burch and Jessie Ennis.

The gaming world has become popular in quirky comedies and dramas alike. HBO’s “Silicon Valley” had recurring game-development characters, while the lead in Netflix’s “Russian Doll” is also a game developer.

The “Mythical” series is produced by Lionsgate, 3 Arts Entertainment and Ubisoft.

Separately, the streamer also landed a first-look deal with Irish actress-writer Sharon Horgan, who co-created “Catastrophe” with co-star Rob Delaney. All four seasons of the comedy are on Amazon Prime.

Horgan will next be seen in the upcoming film adaptation of “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.” Her screen credits include “How to Build a Girl” and “Army Wives.”

Merman, her production company, also has a development deal with Sky’s new content unit, Sky Studios. The company’s comedy “Motherland” is currently running on Sundance Now.
