Apple TV+ is adding more star power to its roster by partnering with Wanda Sykes’ production company for a five-part docuseries “Visible: Out on Television.”
The series will kick off on Feb. 14 and reveal how TV has shaped the LGBTQ movement.
Created by filmmakers Ryan White and Jessica Hargrave, each hour-long episode of “Visible” examines critical themes, such as homophobia and characters coming out in the industry.
According to an Apple TV+ statement, the series “investigates the importance of TV as an intimate medium that has shaped the American conscience, and how the LGBTQ movement has shaped television.” Archival footage and interviews with key activists are also included.
Some of the stars interviewed for the series include Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, Don Lemon and Sara Ramirez. Celebrities who serve as narrators include Neil Patrick Harris, Margaret Cho, Lena Waithe and Janet Mock.
The award-winning comedian/activist Sykes currently stars in ABC’s “Black-ish.” She is executive producing “Visible” with Wilson Cruz.
White and Hargrave’s producing credits include the documentaries “Ask Dr. Ruth” and “The Keepers” on Netflix.
The streamer also renewed its “Little America” series for a second season — before its Jan. 17 debut.
