Everything You Need to Know About HBO Max, AT&T’s Streaming Service, Which is Launching in May 2020 for $15 a Month

At yesterday’s WarnerMedia Day, AT&T revealed everything from the pricing to the release date—and a demo—of their upcoming streaming service HBO Max. We’ll go through every show, movie, and series that will be released by WarnerMedia on HBO Max including content from HBO, Warner Bros., classic televisions shows like Friends and The Big Bang Theory, and new original series.
HBO Max Pricing & Release Date
WarnerMedia unveiled that their ad-free streaming service will debut in the U.S. in May 2020 at $14.99 per month.
Those with HBO NOW or those who get HBO through AT&T or DirecTV will automatically get HBO Max at no extra charge. Those who get it through their cable company will need to wait until AT&T reaches new deals to get HBO Max content.
HBO Max Supported Devices & Apps
WarnerMedia said that HBO Max will be available across mobile devices, tablets, streaming players, connected TVs, gaming consoles, and cable set-top boxes.
Features
HBO Max is made for your convenience. The streaming service will allow you to save your favorite shows for later and offers a joint profiles option, where you and your family can aggregate content to watch together. Most notably, the app will also allow you to follow your favorite celebrities and see what shows they’re into.
HBO Max Features
Carousel, Watch List, & Collections
HBO Max will have a carousel on top. When you scroll you will see collections of episodes from shows such as Friends, as well as tiles to choose from each of the HBO Max brands. The platform will also have a “Watch List” section under the detail page of a show, where you can save your favorite programming for later.
Profiles, Kids Mode, & Joint Profiles
HBO Max will allow you to create user profiles for the entire family. In addition, they will also let you create temporary joint profiles which will make recommendations for both adults and kids — and won’t affect the personalization of your own profile. The streaming services also allows you to set content restrictions for your kids. The profiles themselves will have a custom experience that shows personalized content for your kids.
Follow Celebrities & Video Clips
HBO Max has a unique feature where users can not only follow each other, but can also follow celebrities who use the app as well. The feature allows you to see their public watchlists and offers video clips in which they explain why they like a movie.
HBO Max Library Content
In addition to originals for HBO Max, the service will have a wide library of titles from Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Pretty Little Liars, & Sesame Street. WarnerMedia also announced yesterday they have acquired South Park from Hulu and HBO Max and will also stream Rick and Morty.

Movies
In addition to series, specials and docs, HBO Max will have 1,800 film titles at launch, including HBO’s library of new theatrical hits and classics from Warner Bros., NBC Universal, and Dreamworks.
Global blockbuster franchises from Warner Bros. including The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Gremlins and the Lego movies will be available in the first year, along with every DC film from the last decade including Aquaman and Joker, and every Batman and Superman movie from the last 40 years.
It will also be the exclusive home to 21 Studio Ghibli films like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, Castle in the Sky, The Tale of The Princess Kaguya and more.
HBO Max Original Movies & Shows
The company announced that there will be 50 new originals by 2021, including The Flight Attendant (Kaley Cuoco) Love Life (Anna Kendrick, and Dune: The Sisterhood (based on world created by Frank Herbert’s book Dune).
For Kids & Families
With a competitor such as Disney+, HBO Max has had to make sure their children’s content is the best of the best. Programs from Sesame Street, Cartoon Network and Looney Tunes will all be available on the streaming service.
The core to HBO Max kids offering is all 50 seasons of Sesame Street, including new episodes 6 months before they air on PBS. Additionally, they will offer kids and family content from Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.
HBO Max will also offer a new collection of kids and family programming from Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios coming to HBO Max. All-new Looney Tunes Cartoons and a new Jellystone series featuring the beloved Hanna-Barbera characters have been picked up from Warner Bros. Animation.
New animated series The Fungies! and Tig N’ Seek from Cartoon Network Studios will also make their way onto the platform. Tooned Out, a hybrid live-action and animated comedy from Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis is currently in development. In addition, a collection of classics from the libraries of Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies and Hanna-Barbera have been secured for HBO Max.

Gossip Girl XOXO
The new series will chronicle the lives of new private school teens as they navigate the mean streets of Upper East Side New York and explore how much social media and the landscape of New York itself has changed since the original ended.
DC Super Hero High
Comedy series executive produced by Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels, Pitch Perfect, Shrill), which follows a group of students experiencing the fun and drama of adolescence at a boarding school for gifted kids. These teens are just trying to navigate the pressures of high school, but none of them realize that someday they will become legendary DC Super Heroes.
Rap Sh*t
Issa Rae (Insecure; A Black Lady Sketch Show) is a half-hour comedy series that follows a female rap group from outside of Miami trying to make it in the music industry.
College Girls
Single-camera comedy from Mindy Kaling following three 18-year-old freshman roommates at Evermore College in Vermont who are equal parts lovable and infuriating.
For Adults
Greg Berlanti will also be bringing two additional DC properties to the streaming service—Strange Adventures and a Green Lantern-inspired series. Strange Adventures is a one-hour drama series will explore close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans. not much information was divulged about The Green Lantern-inspired series, although Berlanti mentioned “going to space” with the series.
Dune: The Sisterhood
An adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson’s book based in the world created by Frank Herbert’s book Dune, from director Denis Villeneuve
The Flight Attendant
Thriller series based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian, which will star Kaley Cuoco, who is also executive producing alongside Greg Berlanti
Green Lantern
Inspired series from Berlanti Productions that will finally introduce characters from this iconic comic in Berlanti’s biggest series yet.
