Tonight’s game promises to be high stakes as Orlando SC and Inter Miami CF will be the first teams from within Florida to go head-to-head since the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny played each other back in 2001. Not only is the game one to watch because its the first for MLS since COVID-19 struck, but depending on how tonight goes, a solid long-term rivalry may be forged, giving fans exciting games to watch for years to come.

“It’s definitely a rivalry between the fans and that’s how all rivalry starts,” Orlando forward Tesho Akindele told MLS Soccer.com. “As soon as we step on the field with them, we’ll feel it. Then the more we play against them, the rivalry will build.”

The two teams are both coming in with fire under their bellies as they seek their first win of the season after just two matches. Inter Miami CF gave some promising performances prior to the shutdown but couldn’t manage to come away with any “Ws.”

For their part, Orlando SC is vying to solidify their position in the league. Since joining in 2015, the team has never made it to the playoffs and “have cycled through a number of head coaches, the latest of which is the well-respected Oscar Pareja.”
