About Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso began with a simple enough concept: a soccer team in the UK, AFC Richmond, was in desperate need of a new coach. So desperate, in fact, that it hired a man who thinks football is played with an oblong ball by players wearing helmets. That man — American college football coach from the Wichita State Shockers, Ted Lasso. Ted has some idea of what soccer is, but not necessarily why it exists when there’s already a perfectly good “football” being played.

Ted’s tenure with AFC Richmond is perhaps a bit bizarre, but at the same time, it begins to look like exactly what AFC Richmond needs. The new owner of AFC Richmond, Rebecca Welton, got the team in a divorce settlement and planned early on to destroy it as it was the one thing her now-ex-husband truly loved, but began to reconsider after seeing how Ted ran the team.

That breed of folksy good humor and a dedication toward winning proved a welcome change for a team that hasn’t won “the whole chimichanga” in 40 years, and now, Ted’s working to put the team on a path toward something that looks a lot more like victory.

Steve Anderson got his start writing about direct to video movies almost 15 years ago. This was back in a time when video stores were a part of everyday life, as opposed to being roadside attractions like gator farms or the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota. With that writing on the wall in huge day-glo capital letters and probably moving neon, Steve migrated to streaming, which was clearly the future of home entertainment. Steve has been an enthusiastic proponent of the home theater for years, however, and seeing streaming's growth has proven gratifying as a way to fill the video store's shoes.
