Hulu to Host Virtual Pride Month Celebration ‘PrideFest’ on June 28

Hulu is hosting a virtual festival on June 28 in honor of Pride Month, the company announced Thursday.

“With many festivities canceled or postponed, Pride Month looks a little different this year,” Hulu said. “To keep the spirit of Pride alive, and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march, Hulu is celebrating with its first-ever virtual PrideFest and fresh new content in Hulu’s LGBTQ+ hub.”

Open to both subscribers and non-subscribers, the event is an “immersive digital experience” that will feature exclusive music, dance and spoken word performances throughout the day. PrideFest will be accessible at www.hulupridefest.com.

Viewers will enter “The Green Room” upon arrival, Hulu said, and will be able to create a “fully customizable avatar” that includes outfit patterns that relate to various Hulu programming.

Participants can then head to “The Main Stage,” where they can “interact with talent in a live festival environment.” Performances will include sets from DJs Coco & Breezy, singer-songwriter Daya, Alex Newell (“Glee,” “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”), singer VINCINT, a spoken word session with Lee Mokobe and a dance from House of Ebony.

U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team co-captain Megan Rapinoe will also headline a panel called “Out in Sports” alongside transgender boxer Pat Manuel and Jason Collins, a former NBA player who became the first openly gay active player in one of the four major sports leagues.

“Hulu’s PrideFest also features experiences like a flower field where guests are encouraged to plant their own virtual flowers in a community garden with inspiring or supportive messages,” the announcement said. “Attendees will also have the ability to donate to the ACLU, an organization that fights for racial justice and LGBTQ+ rights, by clicking through to the ACLU website.”

Earlier this week, the streamer added “Love, Victor” – the spin-off series from “Love, Simon” about a gay 17-year-old – to its LGBTQ+ hub, and will add new episodes of “Defining Moments” for PrideFest.
