Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Hold Their Own at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place at the Microsoft Theater in LA, over the weekend — leading into the Primetime Emmy Awards next Sunday. While HBO’s Game of Thrones dominated the board, walking away with a whopping 10 awards on its own, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon also held their own, with high profile shows such as The Handmaid’s Tale, Queer Eye and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel garnering big wins.

Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale walked away with three awards this year. The show received the Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series award for Cherry Jones’ portrayal of Holly. Hulu also won for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program for the same episode of The Handmaid’s Tale as well as Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series for Bradley Whitford’s role as Commander Joseph Lawrence.

Netflix came away with 16 awards overall, split among their vast portfolio. The streamer won Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program for Russian Doll, Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media Within A Scripted Program for Bandersnatch (Black Mirror), Outstanding Casting for a Limited Series, Movie or Special for When They See Us, Outstanding Narrator for Sir David Attenborough’s narration of Our Planet, and Outstanding Casting For A Reality Program for Queer Eye, among others.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel led the pack for Amazon, with six awards. The show won for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series for Luke Kirby as Lenny Bruce, Outstanding Period Costumes and Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series for Jane Lynch’s portrayal of Sophie Lennon, among others. Amazon’s Fleabag also snagged two awards—Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.
