The PGA Tour and Discovery announced a $2B, 12-year deal with the PGA Tour beginning in 2019 for live rights outside the US to 150 tournaments PGA Tour tournaments, including the Players Championship, FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Presidents Cup.
As part of the deal, they will debut an OTT direct-to-consumer service in 220 markets including Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia and Spain beginning in Jan. 1, 2019. Other markets like South Korea, China, and United Kingdom will come online as their current rights deals expire.
The deal also gives Discovery rights on their pay-TV, free-to-air channels, and digital networks.
PGA Tour Streaming Rights in the U.S.
While this doesn’t currently impact PGA Tour rights in the U.S. with CBS and NBC/Golf Channel — it will bring a new possible bidder when those deals expire in 2021.
