Report: ‘Today’ Show Considering All-Day Streaming Options

NBC News is exploring the option of all-day streaming for the “Today” morning show.

The news was first reported by Variety.

Ashley Parrish, vice president, strategic content and Today Digital, sent a memo noting staffers will be assigned to “focus on preparing for a streaming experience,” according to the Variety report.

The move is in keeping with its rivals. ABC’s “Good Morning America” already streams to audiences. “Today” hosts have a digital footprint, too. “Dad’s Got This,” is a digital series hosted by Craig Melvin. Jenna Bush Hager hosts “Open Book,” a digital series that features authors and celebrities.

Plus, NBCU debuts its big streaming service in April. Libby Leist, executive producer for “Today,” told Variety: “I think Peacock is an incredible opportunity for us.” For instance, the show offers archival material, such as cooking segments, which can be repurposed.

The “Today” show,” has been a morning staple for 68 years. Over the years, it has expanded its format, length and added e-commerce.

NBC News Digital will add 30 new staffers to help the morning show’s digital footprint grow, per Parrish. She also announced Today.com’s audience grew 37 percent over the past six months, compared with the year-earlier period.
