WarnerMedia is bringing HBO Max content to new platforms thanks to a partnership with iHeartMedia. The two companies will join forces to launch companion podcasts for some of HBO Max’s upcoming originals and legacy programming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The first two projects on deck will be about comedy thriller “Search Party,” which is set for its third season on June 25, as well as upcoming sci-fi drama “Raised by Wolves.” “Search Party” aired its first two seasons on TBS, while “Raised by Wolves” was originally developed for TNT before being nabbed for HBO Max.
“Today’s streaming fans are hungry for more content the second they finish an episode of their favorite shows, and podcasts are a great way to keep those fans engaged while also giving our roster of creative talent additional tools to extend the worlds of their shows and stories,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer for HBO Max.
This is not WarnerMedia’s first foray into podcasting as the company has also launched companion podcasts for HBO shows “Chernobyl,” “Watchmen” and “McMillions.” Similar to those podcasts, the new shows from WarnerMedia and iHeart will be available to users through the the HBO Max app, THR reported.
As it stands, subscribers “can only listen to podcasts if the app is open and the screen is on, but WarnerMedia is planning to build new features that make it easier to listen on the go.” The new shows will also be accessible through iHeartRadio and other podcast platforms.
