Apple TV+ has greenlit a new eight episode series, “The Shrink Next Door,” based on the hit podcast from Wondery and Bloomberg Media. The series stars Will Ferrell (“Saturday Night Live,” “Stranger Than Fiction”) and Paul Rudd (“Avengers: Endgame”), reports Deadline.
The podcast told the true-life story of Dr. Isaac Herschkopf, a psychiatrist who manipulated and exploited his patents for personal gain.
In the Apple TV+ version, Rudd play Dr. “Ike” Herschkopf; Farrell is his patient, Marty Markowitz. Slowly, Ike takes over Marty’s life, including his Hamptons home and family business. The series reveals how the power grab took what should have been a normal doctor-patient relationship and transformed it into an abusive one.
Rudd and Ferrell had previously teamed up in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”
The series is directed by Michael Showalter (“The Big Sick”), while Georgia Pritchett (“Succession,” “Veep”) will write the script.
Other upcoming Apple TV+ shows include the animated series “Central Park” and “Defending Jacob.”
