“Artemis Fowl” Will Go Straight to Disney+, Instead of Theatrical Release

The global pandemic has caused media companies to shift their release schedule. Disney has already pushed “Mulan”, “Black Widow” — and moved up the release of “Frozen II” and Pixar’s “Onward” on Disney+. Now that it doesn’t look like theaters will re-open anytime soon, Disney has moved “Artemis Fowl” from a theatrical release to Disney+.

The film was originally supposed to open in theaters on May 29th, after being pushed from its original release of August 9th last year. The movie based on the eight fantasy novels written by Eoin Colfer, follows “12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his mysteriously disappeared father, and in doing so, uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies.”

The movie directed by Kenneth Branagh, stars Colin Farrell, Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Judi Dench, and Josh Gad. This isn’t the only major motion picture going straight to streaming.

Last month, Universal shifted their theatrical release of “Trolls: World Tour” direct to digital rental on April 10th — the same day it was set to be released in theaters.
