Report: Disney Plus Delays Filming for Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Until 2021

Disney+ is once again playing musical chairs with production of the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Earlier this month, the streaming service halted production on the “Lizzie McGuire” reboot after the series’ showrunner left. Now, something similar is happening with the Ewan McGregor-helmed Star Wars spinoff. Comicbook.com reported that the actor confirmed filming for the show has been pushed back from summer 2020 to early 2021.

“It just slipped to next year, that’s all,” McGregor told Comicbook.com. “Instead of shooting this August, they just want to start shooting in January, that’s all. It’s nothing more dramatic than that. It often happens in projects, they just wanted to push it to next year.”

The Obi-Wan series will join megahit, “The Mandalorian,” as well as another series based on Cassian Andor character first introduced in the film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” with Diego Luna reprising his role.

McGregor previously played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the three Star Wars prequels “The Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.” There were previous reports stating that the actor would star in a standalone Obi-Wan film, but the production never came to fruition because of the under-performing Star Wars standalone film, “Solo.”
