This week Hulu began notifying customers that they will no longer be supporting Blu-ray players as soon as this month. This includes Samsung Blu-ray devices running Orsay OS which will be deprecated in late June. LG Blu-ray players running Web OS 2.0 and all Sony Blu-ray players will lose support in July and August respectively.
This does not come as a complete surprise, as the the apps were based on the Classic Hulu App, which did not support new features or Hulu Live TV. Fortunately, since some of these players were first released in 2012, there has been improved support for Smart TVs and inexpensive streaming media players — like the Amazon Fire Stick 4K.
Hulu has some of the widest device compatibiily, with playback support for both Hulu and Hulu Live TV on all but Android TV and PlayStation devices. On PS4, Android TV Smart TVs, and streaming players like NVIDIA SHIELD and Xiaomi Mi Box, Hulu only supports their Classic App without Live TV service.
