Hulu Shakes Up Executive Team in Major Company Reorganization

Hulu CEO, Randy Freer, announced today a major reorganization of the executive team. This is following yesterday’s release that the company now has 20 million subscribers, with 800,000 of them subscribing to the Hulu Live TV product.

As part of the reorganization, Ben Smith (SVP, Experience), Tim Connolly (SVP, Partnerships & Distribution), and Joel Stillerman (Chief Content Officer) will be departing Hulu.

The company announced that Dan Phillips, formerly COO of TiVo, has joined Hulu as CTO and Jaya Kolhatkar, formerly SVP of Analytics of Walmart, has joined as Chief Data Officer.

Freer stated that the goal of the reorganization is to align the company around four strategic priorities: the subscriber journey, technology & products, content, and advertising.

Technology & Product

This group lead by new CTO Dan Phillips will focus on engineering, data center operations, network and broadcast operations center, information technology and program management, as well as product management, user experience and product development.

Subscriber Journey

This group lead by current CMO Kelly Campbell will focus on user acquisition, engagement, retention, viewer experience, and subscriber partnerships.

Content

The new content division will now be split into two parts - Content Partnerships and Original Programming.

Content Partnerships

Content Partnerships will focus on live TV and SVOD content licensing, acquisition, and business functions. With the departure of Connolly and Stillerman, this role is currently waiting to be filled.

Original Programming

The Original Programming team will manage the production and development of Hulu Originals lead by SVP of Content, Craig Erwich.

Advertising

The Advertising Sales group will continue to report to SVP of Ad Sales, Peter Naylor. It will focus on ads for SVOD and dynamically-inserted ads in Hulu’s Live TV product.
