Live NFL Games Will Now Be Available For Free In Yahoo Fantasy Football App Next Season

Yahoo Sports is expanding on its existing relationship that streams local and national games for free on the NFL App and Verizon-owned properties like Yahoo Sports, Tumblr and AOL next season.

That’s because, in a recent announcement, Verizon said that Yahoo Sports is broadening its NFL streaming rights for the 2019 regular season, with the Yahoo Fantasy Football mobile app set to stream local games, Thursday Night Football games, early and late primetime games on Sunday, and Monday Night Football games. Games that happen on Saturday later in the season will also be streamed within Yahoo’s fantasy app, as well as playoff games and the Super Bowl.

In addition to the news that live NFL games will be on the Yahoo Fantasy Football app on smartphones and tablets, games will also continue to stream on the Yahoo Sports mobile app as part of the five-year, $2 billion deal Verizon and the NFL agreed to in December 2017. You won’t be able to stream games on your streaming media player, like Apple TV or Roku, you’ll still need a Live TV Streaming Service for that.

For fantasy football fans, this is another exciting way to stay up-to-date with all that’s happening directly from the Yahoo Fantasy Football mobile app.

Per SportTechie, here’s what Geoff Reiss, GM of Yahoo Sports, had to say about the recent announcement.

“One of the interesting things we saw in year one [of Yahoo’s partnership with the NFL] is a concentration of younger fans watching the NFL on Yahoo Sports. Half of our fans were under the age of 40. I think one of the reasons the league was interested in working with us is we would be a means for them to reach younger audiences that are either cord-cutters or cord-nevers.

The NFL understands the best way to reach certain fans is through the device that demographic cannot put down. The folks we’re looking at are holding their phones six hours a day. We already feel like we have the best fantasy experience of anybody in the market. This is just another brick in that wall.”

In addition to these changes, the NFL is expected to pick a new streaming partner for NFL Sunday Ticket, so you can stream out-of-market games — even if you don’t have DirecTV. It has been rumored that both Amazon for Prime Video, and Disney for ESPN+ could be interested in the service.
