Syncbak — a platform for live local OTT content — announced they launched a new channel on their SBTV streaming platform dedicated to covering Covid-19. The channel, named after the virus, aggregates and curates news content from local TV broadcasters across the nation with content refreshed every hour, 24 hours a day.
“Now more than ever people want to know what’s happening on the ground not only in their local communities, but also the local communities of friends and loved ones across the country,” said Jack Perry, CEO of Syncbak. “Working with the local news broadcasters that are part of SBTV, the new channel will provide citizens with an inside look at what is happening in towns across the U.S., which they won’t get just watching their national news. The channel also lets us spotlight some of the great work of local reporters working hard on the ground.”
The new Covid-19 channel is one of a few ways SBTV is assisting viewers across the nation stay up to date. Over the past couple of weeks, SBTV stations have live-streamed programs that are exclusive to the Covid-19 channel. WWTV in Cadillac, Mich., for example, uploaded full-length press conferences from the state’s governor onto their platform in an effort to keep their viewers informed. The channel also uploaded a special on the virus, filmed with local health authorities.
Though the SBTV normally operates with ads, the Covid-19 channel will run without them. Viewers can access their local updates by downloading the free, SBTV app via web and mobile browsers. The SBTV app is also available in the Apple app store and Google Play, as well as Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku.
