What’s the Difference Between the Free Version of Peacock and Peacock Premium?

As Peacock prepares for its national launch on July 15, NBCUniversal is about to enter the streaming wars themselves. When you consider how users have already subscribed to services like HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, why would users even consider another streaming service? One unique element of Peacock is the price. The service comes in two different forms: a free version of Peacock and Peacock Premium. But what’s the difference?

What Is the Free Version of Peacock?

The free version of Peacock offers an ad-supported subscription that will offer users access to 13,000 hours of NBC programs and series.

These will include releases of modern shows a week after they arir, full access to older NBC shows like “Parks and Recreation,” sports programming, daily news, Spanish-language programming and much more. The company also promises that users will not have more than five minutes of commercials per hour.

What Is Peacock Premium?

Peacock Premium will help fill in that hole.

Users will get access to what NBCUniversal estimates will be around 20,000 hours in content. This will include all of the programs that users of the free version of Peacock would typically receive. But it is expected to be expanded significantly in the coming months and years.

This will include exclusive original Peacock programs such as the new show “Brave New World,” additional shows, and movies, next-day access to current shows, daily news and a plethora of other services including live sports.

Last week, NBCUniversal announced Peacock Premium will stream 175 exclusive Premier League matches in the 2020-21 season. All content previously presented on NBC Sports Gold’s “Premier League Pass” will shift exclusively to Peacock Premium.

Peacock Premium will come in two versions: a $5 monthly subscription that includes ads and a $10 service that offers no ads.

Users who already have select cable packages, such as Comcast X1, Comcast Flex or Cox Communications, will receive a $5 discount on any monthly subscription they wish to acquire.
