AT&T Communications CEO, John Donovan, Who Oversees DirecTV, AT&T TV and AT&T TV NOW To Retire In October

Today, John Donovan, CEO of AT&T Communications, announced he will retire on Oct. 1, after 11 years with the company. Donovan has led AT&T Communications for the past two years. The branch serves 100 million mobile, broadband and pay-TV customers in the United States, and millions of business customers, including nearly all of the Fortune 1000.

“It’s been my honor to lead AT&T Communications during a period of unprecedented innovation and investment in new technology that is revolutionizing how people connect with their worlds,”Donovan stated. “All that we’ve accomplished is a credit to the talented women and men of AT&T, and their passion for serving our customers. I’m looking forward to the future – spending more time with my family and watching with pride as the AT&T team continues to set the pace for the industry.”

News of Donovan’s retirement comes right as the company is in the middle of some making some changes to their services. In addition to rebranding DIRECTV NOW to AT&T TV NOW, the company also launched AT&T TV in 10 test markets, just last week. AT&T TV was thought to be a streaming version of their DIRECTV service, but it’s turned out to be everything that people hate about cable and satellite companies — hidden fees, contracts, teaser pricing, channels they don’t need — with the similar bundle that you would get with a $50 Live TV Streaming Service.

Donovan joined AT&T in 2008 as Chief Technology Officer. He was in charge of the company’s global technology direction and innovation. He was then promoted to Chief Strategy Officer and Group President—AT&T Technology and Operations, before being named CEO of AT&T Communications in July 2017.

AT&T is yet to name a replacement.
