Brad Pitt’s Plan B Company Secures First-Look Deal With Amazon Prime Video

Fern Siegel

Amazon Prime Video has scored more A-list talent for first-look deals. The streamer announced additional alliances during the Television Critics Association tour.

They include: Brad Pitt’s Plan B (“Moonlight”), duo Gael Garcia Bernal (Amazon Prime’s “Mozart in the Jungle”) and Diego Luna (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) and Steve McQueen (“Small Axe” for Amazon later this year.)

Plan B is working on the drama “Outer Range,” about a Wyoming rancher’s trying to save his land. The company is also producing Barry Jenkins’ adaption of “The Underground Railroad” novel, which debuts later this year.

Pitt’s Plan B was founded in 2001. Three of its movies — “The Departed,” “12 Years a Slave” and “Moonlight” — have won the Oscar for best picture.

At present, Bernal and Luna are executive producing an untitled “Cortés and Moctezuma” project from Amazon Studios and Amblin Television.

In addition to “Small Axe,” McQueen will also prep sci-fi thriller “Last Days” for the streamer.

Similar deals with Amazon Studios have previously been struck with actress-producer Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights,” “American Crime Story”), Lena Waithe (“Master of None”) and Forest Whitaker (“Bird,” “Crying Game”).

Amazon Studios, home of the Emmy-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” recently bought Sye to improve its live streaming of sports coverage.

The pursuit of content deals comes as various streamers jockey for position, prior to the entry of HBO Max and Peacock.
