Criterion Channel, The Criterion Collection’s Streaming Service, Launches Today to Replace Filmstruck

Last year, AT&T-owned WarnerMedia shut down indie streaming service Filmstruck, despite a campaign to save the service by Hollywood elite Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Barbra Streisand, Christopher Nolan and more.

One of the big draws to the service was the inclusion of films from The Criterion Collection like Muholland Drive, 12 Angry Men, and Dr. Strangelove for $10.99 a month. Today, there is finally a replacement for the much loved streaming service.

The Criterion Collection has launched their streaming service called The Criterion Channel. This follows a beta period where Charter Subscribers could watch a Movie of the Week every Wednesday until the official launch of the site. New subscribers will pay $11 a month ($99.99 a year), after a 14-Day Free Trial, for access to 1,000 titles which can be streamed on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, iOS, and Android devices.

Subscribers will also get access to the Sunday Spotlight which is a movie marathon around a different director, movie star, or theme each week. Tuesdays will offer Short + Feature pairings, Wednesdays are dedicated to women filmmakers, with a double feature on Fridays and family-friendly matinee on Saturdays. Films included as part of special features will be available for a minimum of ninety days on the service.
