Amazon Prime Video, home to the Emmy-winning “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” has announced its January lineup. There is something for every taste and demographic: stand-up specials to original dramas, movies favorites to documentaries.
Movies run the gamut from “Sherlock Holmes” to Hollywood’s “Swimming With Sharks.” Thriller fans can tune into “Midsommar,” while “Star Trek” devotees can enjoy all six blockbusters.
One of the more charming, offbeat efforts is the original Amazon film “Troop Zero,” premiering Jan. 17. Oscar winners Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”) and Viola Davis (“Fences”) star in a Southern story about a misfit group of singular girls who create a scouting troop to qualify for a NASA project.
Comedians Rob Delaney, Russell Peters, Jayde Adams and Ilana Glazer, co-creator of “Broad City,” will all appear in stand-up specials.
TV originals include “James May: Our Man In Japan: Season 1,” a six-episode travelogue. May, best known as one-third of the “Top Gear” hosts, explores everything from the ancient craft of making samurai swords to Tokyo train spotting. “Just Add Magic,” the streamer’s successful live-action family television series, gets a sequel: “Just Add Magic: Magic City.”
On a more chilling note is the docuseries “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer: Season 1,” told from a woman’s perspective.
