About ‘Controlling Britney Spears,’ ‘Toxic: Britney Spears’ Battle For Freedom,’ and ‘Britney vs. Spears’
Friday night’s surprise FX & Hulu special is described as “an explosive follow-up documentary” to the smash hit “Framing Britney Spears,” with new allegations from “insiders with intimate knowledge of Britney’s daily life inside the conservatorship,” the official release says. If you plan on watching the FX/Hulu versions, be aware that you’ll find them listed as episodes under “The New York Times Presents.”
“Controlling Britney Spears” will detail a previously confidential report published by The New York Times on Friday, which revealed that Spears told a court investigator in 2016 that her conservatorship had become “an oppressive and controlling tool against her.”
Sunday’s CNN Special Report includes interviews with lawmakers including House representatives Charlie Crist (D-FL) and Nancy Mace (R-SC); actors Mischa Barton and Rosie O’Donnell; founders of the #FreeBritney movement; conservator expert attorney LisaMacCarley; award-winning journalists Ronan Farrow and Jia Tolentino; and several team members who were close to Spears from the beginning of her career through the start of her conservatorship.
The Netflix documentary dropping early Tuesday features years-long investigative work, exclusive interviews and new documents. The film teases text messages and a voicemail, as well as new interviews with key players. Spears’ family has nothing to do with the Netflix documentary.
