Hulu Live TV vs. Fubo - Which Should You Choose?

If you’re looking for a new live TV streaming service, is Fubo or Hulu Live TV a better choice? The decision may depend on what you value most. Both are excellent streaming options with lots of pros and cons. If you’d like a quick comparison, check out The Streamable’s Service Matchmaker. Let’s dig in to compare your options.

Winner on Price: Hulu

Hulu starts at $76.99 / month and Fubo is $91.99 / month. Hulu Live TV is our clear winner.

Winner on Overall Channels: Hulu

When it comes to the base tiers, Hulu has the edge. Hulu includes 33 of the top 35 cable channels, which tops Fubo’s 25.

Hulu offers all the major cable channels Fubo offers. Hulu will also be your choice if you like to watch A&E, Cartoon Network, CNN, History, Lifetime, TBS, TNT, and truTV.

Overall, Fubo has 213 channels while Hulu offers 105.

Channel Upgrades

Both services allow you to get add a package of additional channels for $8/month.

Both upgrade packages give you American Heroes, BET Her, CNBC World, Cooking Channel, Destination America, Discovery Family, Discovery Life, MTV Classic, MTV2, Nicktoons, Science, and TeenNick.

But the Fubo Extra package is a far better value, since you’d also get At Home with Family Handyman, BET Jams, BET Soul, Cheddar, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, FXM, Great American Faith & Living, GINX Esports TV, Great American Adventures, GSN, INWONDER, JusticeCentral.TV, Law&Crime, LOGO, MLB Network, MTV Live, MTVU, Nat Geo Wild, NBA TV, NHL Network, Nick Music, Outside Television, Pac-12 Network, PokerGO, Revry, SEC Network, SEC Network+, Sony Movie Channel, Tennis Channel, and Zona Futbol.

You won’t get those channels with Hulu Live TV’s Entertainment Add-on, but it does give you the edge if you prefer Boomerang, Great American Family, Great American Country, Hallmark Family, and Magnolia Network.

Winner on Local Channels: Draw

Both services offer ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, Telemundo, and The CW. However, Fubo lost access to 160 local CBS affiliates in early 2023. If this is a concern to you, Hulu is the superior choice.

Winner on Sports Channels: Fubo

Pro Sports Networks

NBA and MLB fans should take note that TBS and TNT are available on Hulu Live TV, but not Fubo.

For $11/month, you can add Sports Plus to Fubo for ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, Fight Network, IMPACT Wrestling, MLB Network, MLB Network Strike Zone, NBA TV, NFL RedZone, NHL Network, Pac-12 Network, SEC Network, SEC Network+, SportsGrid, Stadium, Stadium Plus, Tennis Channel, and Zona Futbol.

For $6/month, you can also add International Sports Plus to Fubo for Next Level Sports, ESPN Deportes, FOX Deportes, Fox Soccer Plus, GOLTV, TyCSports, and Zona Futbol.

Hulu Live TV includes NFL Network. NFL RedZone is included in a $9.99 Sports Add-On, which also includes MAVTV, Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, TVG, and TVG2.

Hulu Live TV also includes free access to ESPN+. We’ll have more on that later, but the service provides a ton of value to sports fans, especially if you like hockey.

Regional Sports Networks

Both services offer Monumental Sports Network, NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports Boston, NBC Sports California, NBC Sports Chicago, NBC Sports Philadelphia, and NBC Sports Philadelphia+.

But only Fubo offers Altitude, Arizona's Family Sports, SportsNet Pittsburgh, AT&T SportsNet Southwest, Bally Sports Detroit, Bally Sports Florida, Bally Sports Great Lakes, Bally Sports Indiana, Bally Sports Kansas City, Bally Sports Midwest, Bally Sports New Orleans, Bally Sports North, Bally Sports Ohio, Bally Sports Oklahoma, Bally Sports San Diego, Bally Sports SoCal, Bally Sports South, Bally Sports Southeast, Bally Sports Southwest, Bally Sports Sun, Bally Sports West, Bally Sports Wisconsin, Fox Sports Wisconsin, Marquee Sports Network, MASN, MSG, MSG Sportsnet, NESN, Rockies.TV Channel, Root Sports Northwest, Space City Home Network, and YES Network

College Sports Networks

Both provide ACC Network, Big Ten Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPNU, and SEC Network.

But only Hulu offers ACC Network Extra and truTV in its base package.

Winner on Included Features: Hulu

On Demand Library

Hulu Live users get access to Hulu’s vast library of on demand content, although you will see ads unless you’re willing to upgrade for another $12/month. That’s honestly a great deal for the number of movies and shows you’ll get. Normally, ad-free access to Hulu’s library would cost $17.99 / month. You’ll be able to see “The Handmaid's Tale,” “Pam & Tommy,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Palm Springs,” “PEN15,” “Shrill,” and a great rotating library of blockbuster movies.

Fubo offers no similar feature.

The Disney Bundle

Subscribers to Hulu Live TV now get automatic access to Disney+ and ESPN+. That means you’ll be able to stream most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, every Star Wars film, Pixar movies, and classic Disney animation, along with the strong sports package on ESPN+, including tons of NHL games. It’s a staggering amount of content and it comes as part of your normal Hulu Live TV subscription.

DVR

Hulu provides an unlimited DVR. You can keep your recordings up to nine months.

Fubo offers a 1000-hour DVR.

Lookback

Fubo’s lookback feature lets you watch sports and entertainment shows that aired in the previous three days that aren’t available on demand. Some of these shows allow you to skip commercials.

Verdict

If you’re a sports fan, the optionality of Fubo is hard to beat. Your ability to load up on sports packages and cut them loose month-to-month is a tempting offer. With almost any upgrade package available, Fubo’s packages give you more bang for your buck. The greater access to regional sports channels may also be a deciding factor.

If you’re more inclined toward general entertainment and movies, Hulu makes more sense because you’ll get access to that great library, everything from Disney+, the excellent sports package from ESPN+, and the cost for the ad-free Hulu upgrade is very reasonable.
