Netflix Tests Shuffle Play Button, Designed to Make Viewing Easier

To make selections a breeze for users, Netflix is testing a new feature.

The Shuffle Play button, located on the streamer’s home screen under the user profile icon, is meant to make viewing easier, reports TechCrunch.

Press the button and Netflix will then play a movie or TV show it thinks the viewer would like. It could be anything from a title they have already seen to something on their watch list.

The goal, ironically, is to resemble linear TV – where you turn on the set and a show begins.

This isn’t the first time the streamer has experimented with such a content tool. In 2019, Netflix tried out a shuffle mode that let users click on a show that played any episode. There was also an option called “Play something.” Both were eventually eliminated.

Before Shuffle Play is made official, the streamer will collect user feedback and determine if the results merit a public rollout.
