Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service, and NBCUniversal has agreed to a deal to bring classic shows like Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys to the service.
The news comes just weeks after Tubi announced that they had secured $25m in growth capital to build out their content catalog. NBCUniversal has plans to launch this their own streaming service in early 2020, but will make it available to anyone who subscribes to a pay TV service.
According to Tubi, titles include TV series such as Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, The A-Team, Punky Brewster, The Incredible Hulk, Quantum Leap and the original versions of Magnum, P.I., Battlestar Galactica, Bionic Woman, and She-Ra: Princess of Power.
The ad-supported service that turns on-demand content into linear channels, saw competitor Pluto TV get acquired by Viacom for $340 million. Just yesterday, another similar service, XUMO was rumored to be in acquisition talks with broadcasters including Sinclair Media Group. Last month, Sinclair launched their own ad-supported streaming service, STIRR.
Tubi has rapidly expanded their content library to include more than 12,000 movies and television series – which is more than double in size to Netflix – approximately 40,000 hours of content. The service is available on most connected devices including Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, iOS, Android, and Xfinity X1.
