WWE Network Finishes 2018 with 1.53 Million Paid Subscribers. How Has it Grown Since 2014?

Last week as part of their Q4 earnings release, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that the WWE Network, their wrestling-focused streaming service, reached 1.53MM paid subscribers at the end of last year. That’s compared to 1.47MM (up 4%) from the fourth quarter last year.

The WWE Network, which launched in February 2014, is a 24/7 live streaming direct-to-consumer network that includes all of WWE’s PPV events, as well as classic fights. The service is available on most streaming devices including Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Chromecast, iOS, and Android. The subscription is $9.99 a month with no commitment after a 30-Day Free Trial.

Because subscribers are not required to keep the subscription for the entire year, there is some seasonality to the subscription as people cancel and re-subscribe based on the timing of major PPV events. The service peaked in the second quarter last year with 1.74 million subscribers - which included WrestleMania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble.

The streaming service quickly grew reaching 1.2 million by the end of 2015, but hasn’t seen the same growth since. Their domestic paid audience has only grown from 940K to 1.1MM (+17%) over the last three years. Most of the growth has come from an international audience, which has grown nearly 50% over the same time period. Their international audience for the service has steadily grown to nearly 27% of paid subscribers — with 412K in Q4 this year.
