You Can Now Control Your Roku Streaming Player & Roku TV From Amazon Echo Devices

Roku announced this morning that both Roku TV and Roku Streaming Players can interact with Amazon Alexa-enabled devices. With the new Roku skill for Alexa, you can use voice control to open apps, find shows, and even control playback. Back in October, the company added support to control your Roku using Google Assistant.

The feature is available on all Roku devices running Roku OS 8.1+. The Alexa skill is available across Echo devices including Amazon Echo, Echo Show, Echo Dot, Echo Spot, and Echo Plus.

How to Enable Roku Skill

You can click here to activate the Alexa Skill or set it up using the Alexa app.

  • Open Alexa app
  • Go to Settings
  • Select TV & Video
  • Enable the Roku Skill and link your Roku account

Once the skill is enabled, you can say things like “Alexa, find Science Fiction on Roku,” or “Alexa, pause Roku”, or “Alexa, open HBO on Roku.” If you have a Roku TV, you can even turn on the TV (“Alexa, turn on Roku”), change the volume (“Alexa, turn up the volume on Roku”), mute the TV, switch inputs, or change channels.
