Narra las aventuras amorosas y sexuales de cuatro neoyorquinas solteras e independientes: la columnista Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) y sus tres mejores amigas, la abogada Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), la pija Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) y la promiscua Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). El programa se hizo famoso por rodar escenas en las calles, los bares, restaurantes y discotecas de Nueva York. En principio la serie se basó en un recopilación de artículos de Candace Bushnell (“Sex and the City”) publicados en el “New York Observer”.
