After a long hiatus, the Fox Now app has been updated for Android TV. The updated app includes a new design, ability to log-in to a Fox profile, and build a playlist. It even adds Android TV specific features like voice control and support for Play Next channel (Android O+).
In August, Android Headlines reported that it appeared the app was no longer supported on the platform, due to an email from the FOX NOW team. The email read “Android TV devices run a version of the FOX NOW app that is no longer supported with updates, which means lives streaming is not available.”
The email explained that live streaming was still available on other devices, including Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Android TV users could continue to download the app, although they would not have access to new features and streaming capabilities.
Although FOX NOW never officially confirmed that they had discontinued updates for the app, users were left to assume as much. Today, the app shows updates to stream recent shows, including Gotham, The Orville, and Last Man Standing.
This is good news for Android TV users. The app has content from Fox, FX, FXX, National Geographic, as well as access to live sports. Log in with your streaming provider like Hulu Live TV and PlayStation Vue to view all episodes. If you don’t have one, you can view 5 unlocked episodes of every series 8 days after they air.

Android TV has historically fallen behind other platforms with native apps. Many users end up trying to “sideload” Fire TV apps (installing without Google Play) on Android TV devices.
